How to make your lash extensions last.

A good set can look fresh for weeks. Whether it actually does comes down to a few small habits in the first day, and the ones you keep after.

The question I hear most after a full set is some version of "what do I do now?" The honest answer is: not much, but the little you do matters. Extensions do not fail on their own. They get cut short by a handful of everyday habits, and they last beautifully when you swap those for a few better ones.

The first 24 hours matter most

The adhesive that bonds each extension to your lash needs time to fully cure. For the first day, keep your lashes dry and away from steam, saunas, and long hot showers. A little water will not ruin them, but heat and moisture while the bond is still setting is the fastest way to lose length early. After that first day, your set is settled and far more forgiving.

Cleanse them, do not avoid them

The biggest myth in lashes is that washing them makes them fall out. The opposite is true. Clean lashes last longer. Oil, makeup, and the natural film your skin produces all break down adhesive over time, so leaving lashes unwashed is what shortens a set, not the washing.

Use a gentle, lash-safe foaming cleanser every day, work it through with a soft brush, rinse, and let them air dry or fluff them with a clean spoolie. Thirty seconds, and it is the single best thing you can do for longevity.

What quietly shortens a set

A few things work against you without being obvious:

  • Oil-based products near the eyes, including many cleansers and makeup removers. Check the label.
  • Rubbing and picking. If a lash feels loose, leave it. Pulling takes your natural lash with it.
  • Sleeping face-down, which crushes one side flat. A silk pillowcase helps.
  • Waterproof mascara and lash curlers, which you no longer need and which stress the extensions.

Book your fill before it is too late

Your natural lashes shed on their own cycle, so a set gradually thins rather than falling off all at once. The trick is to come in for a fill while your look is still full, usually every two to three weeks, rather than waiting until it has thinned out. Time it well and you never start from scratch.

Quick answers

Can I wash my face with lash extensions?

Yes, and you should. Clean lashes last longer. Use a gentle, lash-safe foaming cleanser daily and avoid oil-based products near the eyes.

How long should a set last?

A set grows out with your natural lashes over three to four weeks. With good care and a fill every two to three weeks, your look stays full continuously.
